Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) form the backbone of the economy, and their transition is key to achieving emissions reductions and climate resilience.
Co-chaired by Bank Negara Malaysia and UOB Bank, the SME Focus Group aims to:
Identify, curate, prioritise and address the issues and challenges faced by SMEs in adopting sustainable and low-carbon practices through building of knowledge, expertise and sharing of best practices and experience;
Propose and identify priority segments of the economy (such as hard-to-abate sectors, and sectors affected by transboundary climate and environmental-related risks) to be supported by the implementation of appropriate and tailored climate-related strategies and solutions for SMEs;
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and the wider ecosystem in the development and implementation of strategies to facilitate the transition by SMEs; and
Connect with other JC3 sub-committees to design, coordinate and deliver SME-related programmes and strategies by JC3 and to support the deliberation and objectives of the JC3.
